How to Choose a TV Stand Size for a 55, 65 or 75-Inch Screen

A television in South Africa is sold by the diagonal, in inches. The stand under it is chosen in centimetres, by the width of the top and by where the feet land. This guide matches a 55-inch, a 65-inch and a 75-inch screen to a stand, then points you to the TV stands and TV units we sell.

What a 55, 65 and 75-inch screen measures

Shops quote the diagonal. At home, plan the lounge in centimetres. A current flat screen is almost always 16:9, so the glass is about 87% as wide as the diagonal. These figures are the glass only. The frame and the feet change the number that has to fit the stand, so measure your own set if you already have it.

Match the feet, then the diagonal

The stand carries the feet. On many sets the feet sit in from the corners, so the glass is wider than the gap between them.

Measure the lounge

Measure the wall, including room to walk past and to open a door. Sit on the sofa. The middle of the screen should sit near eye level. A low unit that also works as a coffee table drops the screen, which suits a small lounge better than a 75-inch set. Our pages print a maximum screen size on one console only. They do not print the stand height in centimetres.

The four TV stands on this shelf

The TV stands shelf lists four LAZAVA units. Use the foot-span steps before you treat one as a finished match.

The Lazava Rustic TV Console, 65-Inch is made for screens up to 65 inches. A 55-inch and a 65-inch sit inside that printed limit when the feet land fully on the top. A 75-inch is larger than 65 inches, so it sits outside that limit.

The Lazava TV Stand Cabinet with 2 Doors hides consoles, remotes and cables behind two doors. The page does not print a screen size or a width in centimetres. Measure the top against the foot span for a 55-inch, 65-inch or 75-inch screen.

The Lazava Modern TV Stand with Open Shelving keeps media devices, books and décor on open shelves. The page says it suits a range of TV sizes, and it does not print a width in centimetres, so measure the top for your inch size.

The Lazava Modern TV Stand with Storage is the compact unit. It doubles as a coffee table and a side shelf for a small lounge, a studio flat or a student room. It does not print an inch limit. Measure the top before you put a large screen on it.

A 75-inch screen

A 75-inch 16:9 glass is about 166 cm wide, and it is above the only screen limit printed on this shelf. Measure the foot span and compare it with the top. Where the feet will not sit fully on a stand, use a wall mount. See TV mounts and brackets. The Lasa dual-arm wall mount fits curved and flat screens from 37 to 80 inches, which covers 55, 65 and 75. A wall mount is not a TV stand. You still need a shelf or a cupboard for the decoder.

Questions

How wide is a 55-inch TV, and which stand matches it?

A 16:9 55-inch screen is about 122 cm wide and 69 cm high. The rustic TV console is made for screens up to 65 inches, so a 55-inch is inside that limit when the feet sit fully on the top.

Will a 65-inch TV fit the rustic TV console?

The console is made for screens up to 65 inches. Measure the foot span as well, and leave space for a soundbar and for the drawers to open.

Can a 75-inch TV go on these stands?

A 75-inch screen is about 166 cm wide and 93 cm high. The only maximum printed on this shelf is 65 inches. Measure the feet against the top, or use a wall mount made for screens up to 80 inches.

How do I check that the feet will sit on the stand?

Measure from the outside of one foot to the outside of the other. The top needs to be wider than that span, with a few centimetres spare.

What suits a small flat in JHB, PTA or CPT?

The modern TV stand with storage is the compact unit, and it also works as a coffee table and a side shelf. Measure the top, because the page does not print an inch limit.
